You’re pushing us away, he said.
It’s not like you. He asks of my head,
Why this odd stance? I have no clue.
I reflect on it, as I will do.
I tucked the thought; spent time in sleep,
Arrived long last at waters deep.
I’m chased through time by end to come.
These days I’m losing strength to run,
While distance closes fast the gap,
Reminding me of life’s last trap.
I know I’ll solve this on my own;
A thing I must do all alone.
I don’t know I won’t miss you so,
Remembering, where do I go?
What is all without you? Don’t tell,
At thought the ache begins to swell.
To know this weight of love I’ve carried,
Will drop and fall; easily buried,
Crashing down, with nary a sound,
Barely a whisper, no echo ‘round.
Chapter and verse of life full-lived,
Quietly passing and ceasing to give.
In contemplation, I think I see,
A need to prepare for what is to be.
